Artisan Spotlight: Soko

At The Nightingale Collective we are proud to carry Soko’s gorgeous handcrafted jewellery made by talented artisans in Kenya. Each piece has a timeless modern design that will be treasured for years to come.

It is a little known fact that artisans in developing economies like Kenya produce two-thirds of the world’s handmade crafts. Soko’s aim is to connect these artisans directly to markets around the world.

Through using mobile tools, artisans are able to expand their businesses even if they lack access to the internet, computer or bank account. Soko predicts that on average within two months of joining their collective, the artisan's income grows by a factor of 4x. This enables the artisans to expand their skills, product range and customers to a new level.

"Soko was created by women for women to help “fashion a better world” through the equitable direct trade of beautiful jewellery between talented artisans in the developing world and consumers online worldwide." Soko

Soko has recently partnered with Pencils of Promise with the goal of raising awareness and funds for educational empowerment. Soko donates 20% of every purchase from the V PoP range to Pencils of Promise, in support of school builds in Ghana. These limited edition pieces are handmade by Soko artisans in Kenya, using natural and recycled brass.
